nessa, your story about your dogs and Sofia made me think of a story my mom used to tell. My mom's family had a dog named Rusty and when my mom's youngest sibling was born, they didn't know how Rusty (female dog) would react to the new baby. My grandma set the bassinet on the floor to let Rusty sniff it. From then on Rusty was so protective she wouldn't let anyone except family touch the baby!

Nessa, I have 3 dogs too. Let's see, at first they just would sniff the baby and then completely ignore her. Now I have one that would lick her to death, one that runs away from her, and my little dog is so timid he will only approach her if Piper is playing on the floor with my right there too. I have a feeling that once Piper starts eating food, they will suddenly all love her!!

I only have 1 dog and she's been doing pretty well with Olivia. I wasn't worried at all about her harming her purposely, but she's an 85lb dog who thinks she is a lap dog and doesn't realize just how big she is, so my worry is her accidentally doing something. She sniffs and licks, but isn't too fond of the crying. Whenever Olivia cries Kona (the dog) just kind of looks at us like "make it stop!" I think she's been a little jealous of the baby getting all of the attention because she's been more mischievous in stealing things like socks (her favorite!) but overall she has done very well.
How are the rest of you ladies holding up? Your days are coming soon!

Nessa, love your birth story, thank you so much for sharing. I'm so glad to hear how well you're doing (crazy PMS and all - it sounds totally normal from what I've heard, so try not to worry, it's all good!).
Things have been a bit exciting here, but not in such a great way. DH got sick yesterday, he very quickly came down with a cough and fever late afternoon/evening. As soon as we realized he was getting something, I left to stay with my parents. We do know a few friends who have had H1N1 - we weren't in real close contact with them before, but something is going around in our circles. Anyway. My parents wanted me to stay with them, as did DH, just in case I could escape whatever he has. So I was there last night, went to work today and had a slight headache. I get to work and find out my boss came down with the flu last night and is home and already on tamiflu due to her asthma. And another coworker is also home today feeling under the weather. My headache continues and then I start feeling really weak, which apparently is exactly how my boss' illness began. I phoned my OB and explained everything to the nurse, she spoke with my OB and called me back. They put me on tamiflu both as a precaution and also to treat whatever I may have picked up. I had to cancel everything at work for the week and go home, which I did.
The whole thing is scary and of course I'm most scared for the baby. So far I'm still okay - no fever, just a headache and really weak - but even taking tamiflu scares me even though I know the risks of flu complications are way worse than any risks of tamiflu. The whole situation is just scary, I cried a bit before taking the first pill just because I couldn't believe this was all happening. DH and I managed to get the H1N1 vaccine on Saturday even (no small feat right now in my province), but it takes 14 days to build immunity so it's not helping us now. They're not testing people for H1N1 unless there's serious complications, so we'll never know for sure what's going on.
sorry for the novel. I just wanted to let you know! i'll either be MIA for awhile, or maybe I'll be on all the time if I'm home sick and feel up to it, we'll see!
