My period has always been like clock work and typically 5 days (3 heavy days, 1 average day, 1 light day)though in my teens it was 7 days (5 heavy days, 1 average day, 1 light day). For the last 2 months it has only been for 3 days (2 average days then a light day). The most recent one came 3 days early and the one before that was a a day early. Maybe nothing but I wonder what could cause a sudden change in it??? I'm 34, not on birth control, and my last visit with an OB/GYN 2 months ago didn't turn up anything. Of course I didn't mention the short cycle because I figured it was a fluke. I don't think it's stress because that is nothing new for me and I handle that pretty well. Any ideas? Is this just another change that is normal?

Are you absolutely certain that you're not pregnant? Menstruation can still happen in early pregnancy, and usually the periods are shorter and lighter. If your last visit to the gyn was about when this started, and he/she didn't test for pregnancy, it might've been too soon to tell.

Are you on any medications? I experienced changes in my cycles--not in the length or amount of flow, but my period started coming earlier--when I was on Wellbutrin. There may be other medications that would have that effect, too.

Have you recently had any drastic changes in weight or diet?

Thanks for the response Green Tea. I am not on any medications. Nearly impossible to make me take an aspirin lol. No changes in diet or in weight. I have not been tested for pregnancy because I thought it was a period even though it was short. Hmmm...that is possible but I have had no signs at all of pregnancy. I had them ALL with my son!

I agree with Green Tea. Short, light periods can happen sometimes in pregnancy. I believe it's called deciduous or decidual bleeding, or something like that. It's not technically a period but on a schedule almost like your typical periods; you will shed some blood for a few days. It's also possible that for some reason your hormones have changed just a bit, or that it's a seasonal change due to change in weather and amount of daylight which can alter wake-sleep cycles and chemical levels enough to affect your cycle. It's typically caused by longer light hours/light exposures.

I'd test for pregnancy just in case. I'm not sure if home pregnancy tests work after two months; it would be something to ask your gyn about. I agree, you'd think there would be more signs if you were pregnant, but you never know.

If it were a seasonal change, you'd think it would've happened every year. Unless you just moved to a very different climate?

I'm not pregnant. Test came up negative. Maybe it's nothing. I'll wait to see what next month brings. Thanks!

Hi ladies,

I am new to this and could use some advice. I have always had great periods- like clock work every 29-30 days. But since my husband and I have been trying to conceive my periods have been so weird! So, we have been trying for 6.5 months with no luck. Well this month I started spotting for 3 days before i ovulated- has anyone else experienced this? I have never had this before. It wasn't heavy enough to wear a tampon or anything. It was only there when I would wipe.

I sometimes get spotting for a few days round ovulation time. At times it is like fertile cervical fluid (egg-white) streaked with brown/pink blood; at others it's like a very light, brown period (sorry if TMI).

It's nothing to worry about.

It's perfectly normal for your cycle to change, especially when you're TTC, and are no doubt a bit anxious, paying attention to every symptom. As long as you're ovulating, that's the main things smile

Good luck smile

It is very stressful ha! Last month I started going to a herbalist to help my chances and I also started using an ovulation monitor. Before that I just used the ovulation predictor kits. I started my period on Nov 1st, so this month was another let down, but I am hoping it will happen very soon. I go and see an OB/GYN on Thursday, hopefully she will be able to help. I am hoping she doesn't tell me she cant do much because we have only been trying for 7 months because we have done EVERYTHING we can do on our own. Thanks for your response though Hun.
