Hi mommies!! So, I am sorry to just jump in here are start beggin for advice, but, this is me begging. I just posted this question to the general parenting board, but I trust all of you mommies as well....
Here goes
Those of you who know us, know we spent the first 11 months of his life battling reflux and food allergies that had us rocking back to sleep several times a night (EVERY NIGHT) and doing lots of holding and comforting during the day. I don't regret that, we were giving him what he needed at the time....
But, he is turning into a little monster now! The tantrums are unbearable when he doesn't get what he wants and I acutally had to carry him out of Starbucks SCREAMING this morning after a mega meltdown (because I wouldn't let him put his hand in the oatmeal). When he teethes-he is doublely bad. When he is not, he is a little better (the tantrums don't last long and they are fewer).
I ignore the tantrums (when at home or not in a very public place) because I know he has to learn that I will not cave. I have instructed his grandmother (who he spends several days a week with to do the same) though I just don't think she is doing it (every night she says he was JUST FINE all day long). So, I'm not even sure about the consistency when I am away. I handle public outtings pretty well for the most part, but hubby is mortally embarassed and as a result hates going places with us. I need some help!! At 14 months I am scared that if we don't get a handle on this soon, he will be ruling our lives soon!
My question: Advice on how to get a handle on this!! I am not above old fashioned or stronger parenting tactics here, so don't hold back!
Thanks in advance! I will try to catch up a little when little man is not screaming... :-|

Bryony, the pictures are beautiful!! Sounds like Rowan is pretty much potty-trained, yay! Sorry your friend and her baby are still going through so many unknowns. Are the doctors certain the baby has brain damage? That must be so hard for your friend.
Well, Piper caught my illness and sounds horrible, and had a fever all weekend. This is definitely her worst sickness yet--she actually had her first doctors visit yesterday (aside from the scheduled well-baby visits). She has an ear infection and has antibiotics for it. She came down with this horrible burn-like diaper rash--I think it was from having such high temps--does that happen to any of your children when they've had high fevers?

OMG, Bry, how horrid! I was so terrified right after M was born and I cannot imagine how hard it must be for her. She'll be cursing herself that it may not have happened with a planned C-section. That makes it infinitely harder for her. My prayers for them.
I am not sure I want a VBAC for my next one.

That's great news about your sister's baby Ash! Sorry to hear Noah is sick! Be sure to let us know how N's GI appointment goes.
Bry, that is just so sad about your friend's baby. I hope she hears some good news with the MRI.
Piper's diaper burn is getting scabby and clearing up. The reason I think it was from the fever is because, well, she had the rash all weekend, and didn't start antibiotics till Monday, lol! I think her little baby bits were almost literally burned, from a mix of the fever, urine, and it being super hot here. Anyway, she's doing much better today, the antibiotics seem to be really kicking in (and no, Ash, she didn't show any signs of an ear infection--I was really surprised to hear that she had one). And because she's on the antibiotics, I put a little probiotics/acidopholis in her food last night, to fend off that kind of rash.
Yes, I have so many cute pictures of P! I'll have to post them tonight when I'm home!

Hey all!
yet again it's been an absolute age since I last posted!
I've only read back a few pages, TDG - I'm so so sory to hear about your brother, the pain you must be suffering must be too hard to put into words. Thinking of you & your whole family at this difficult time.
Bron - Congratulations are in order, you know young children are very perceptive, I'm willing to bet Laurana is right about the baby being a girl.
Well Ethan is doing ok, still not cooperating with toilet training, I know he can do it, he is just incredibly stubborn and I'm not going to push it anymore. He starts pre-school in september and thankfully they accept kids in nappies. I think seeing the other children using the toilet will encourage him to want to do the same.
Well Ethan is still a challenge in terms of his behaviour but I wouldn't have him any different. He has such a big character and has queues of people in shops laughing at the things he says. People are surprised to learn he's only almost 3, they think he's an undersized 4-5 year old. DD certainly didn't have his vocabularly at his age.
He gave up his naps at Easter and its a struggle to get through the days at times, I do believe he still needs them but his stubborn streak says he doesn't. Its between 3:30 & 5pm that I struggle the most, he' so tired he has a meltdown about everything. He eventually goes to bed just after 7pm and sleeps until 2am. Yes he's awake very early!
Well I have to go soon and pick up my DD so I'll end here. Hope everyone else is ok!
Hayley x

TDG, how awful. My thoughts are with you and your family.
Hi Petal, I've just moved to this side of Parenting, so we're not familiar with each other. What do you do when Ethan gets up at 2am?? Does he entertain himself?
Piper is finally doing better with her cold, and her diaper burn is starting to heal up. We've been leaving her diaper-free while at home, and had to clean up quite a few pee messes and one poop mess. Last night, I was vacuuming in the other room, and hear Piper make the particular sound that said she needed help, so I went into her room and she had pooed and stepped in it--she was just looking at her foot, pointing at it, not moving (I'm thankful she didn't decide to walk all over the house with a poopy foot). Gotta say, even with the messes, I think diaper-free is a easier than diaper changes! Helps that our house is all tile, and we're currently potty-training a puppy, so we have paper towels and a spray bottle of Dr. Brommers at hand at all times! We did get Piper a potty at Target this weekend, she LOVES to sit on it (she's on a sitting-on-everything-phase), and uses it as step-stool to the couch(it's one of those 3 in 1 kind of potties). Umm, she also likes to stick her face in the bowl and yell, listening to the 'echo.' Probably won't let that go on!! It's a bit premature, but I don't think it is too early to introduce the potty.
Oh yeah, more on the new puppy. Well, I'm totally not bonded to this puppy yet, but my DH and Piper are totally in love! It's actually been a great thing, this little guy. Piper loves him, lays on him, hugs him, feeds him (one kernel at a time, so cute) etc., and of course, the little guy loves it!! I have to admit, he's a bit attention starved, as all the other dogs are so much older and totally ignore him, if not push him around. But, the obnoxiousness of the puppy are making the old dogs much more tolerate of Piper, so it's all working out great! While I'm not thrilled with the potty-training and training of the puppy in general, in terms of Piper, this was a perfect time to get a puppy for her. Besides, my dh has been wonderful with the potty-training accidents--though that was part of the agreement to get the little guy.
