I gave up on microfiber as well. By the time I had enough stuffed in to hold her the diaper would barely fit and we'd still have leaks. We are all bamboo and hemp here now, and also the birdseye cotton flats which I'm falling in love with. They are so versatile! I wish I would have tried them long ago, but since the majority of our diapering is done at day care I've always tried to stick to the easiest diapers. I just took advantage of free shipping on KC with no minimum order and used my diaper points to get another pack of flats and another flip cover for the new babe.

BG - I made a wetbag with the BV PUL and it turned out really cute. I made a big one for day care diapers (need to fit at least 5 in it) and added a snap handle as well even though I never really use it. They are super easy and fast to make. Took me maybe a half hour to cut and sew. It's been through the wash a handful of times now and I haven't had any issues with the PUL which I'm happy about.

I am off today since all the schools are closed today as well (first day of deer rifle season, lol!) so Olivia is going to day care and I'm coming home to work on projects. I'm making a crayon case for my cousin's little boy for his birthday this weekend so I need to get that done and I'm hoping to get a few diaper covers done as well. I modified my flip-like cover pattern so I want to try it out and see how it goes.

Microfiber worked great for Piper till right around the 2 year mark. She started leaking out and having compression leaks...for a while, adding a thin hemp babies doubler stuffed with the microfiber helped with both the overfill and compression leaking.

Swaddlebees has the new one-size with birdseye flats...I want some even though P's out of diapers (daytime). Seems like a dream diaper!

Night diapering is still a challenge. The wool is working okay during the night, sometimes it stays dry and sometimes it doesn't. Piper asks to wear the wool at bedtime--she likes it. I like that she doesn't have the disposable stench at night.

I should probably take advantage of some Cyber sales and find one more wool cover and 1-2 more fitteds. The Thirsties duo-fitted stuff with a birdseye flat is working ALL night...maybe I don't need more fitteds!

Oh, and yes, Piper has always been a frequent pooper. Several times a day---so, so, so much easier now that she uses the toilet.

I realize I am catching up a few days late, but on the wool cover front, I use the tutorials on this site http://withatangledskein.blogspot.com/

I have made a wrap and have longies about half finished (but they have been half finished for oer 6 months-darn my short attention span :-)). The directions are quite clear and they call for very basic stitches. So, even less experienced crocheters shouldn't have too much trouble with these patters. Like everyone else, I would be happy to make a pair DG, but the projects (Christmas and new baby) are piling up! Starting to feel the pressure of my impending due date! Might go spend the weekend with my mom and if so, could really get some good sewing and freezer cooking done. Boy that would make me feel a lot better :-).

Okay-where are the best Cyber deals on diapers? I have 12 OS pockets, but probably need a few more. Checked Kellys Closet-okay deals but not great. Any other suggestions?

HWG do you have any newborn diapers? The OS diapers don't usually fit very well for the first few weeks/months, depending on your baby's size.

I absolutely loved Lil Joeys for the newborn stage, even whith tiny RJ. I want to get some next time for #2. I like that they are sold in a 2-pack, but noth that both are the same color or print. I would like to mix it up a bit. Mom's Milk Boutique lets you pick the colors on them, but they don't have the eco owl print I love in Lil Joey. If I have a girl I'd want to get pink, purple, owl, and the pink scroll looking one. I don't think I would need to get more than that and I'd probably resell them when I was done.

Yep-I have 11 KLO's size zero, 5 NB Rearz and a bunch of covers. I lucked out that my girlfriend around the corner is a CDer and her girls are staggered about 1 year (give or take a little) ahead of my boys. So, when thier latest (and last) was done with NB diapers, she sold me her KLOs and covers for $150!

Now I just need a few more OS pockets for after the NB days. Is $15.95 for Fuzzi Bunz Elite OS a good price? Any other places besides Kelly's Closet?

HWG, send me a PM if you're interested in buying any of my OS FuzziBunz. I have a lot of different colors, I can take pictures. I'm thinking $8-$10 each + shipping depending on the condition.

I've been ordering from Kelly's Closet because they usually have get a free diaper deals and you earn points. I just cashed in my points for 10 bucks off the order I placed today. Today they have free shipping with no minimum order and you earn triple points.

I didn't get as much done today as I had hoped (story of my life!) but I did get another cover sewed up. It's a copy of the Flip cover. There are a few more slight adjustments I want to make to the pattern, but overall it turned out pretty well. I just need to find another way to do the leg casings (hard to see in the pic but they are white), because folding PUL to make a bias tape like casing SUCKS!!

Adorable Labby! Do you turn and topstitch the entire cover and then add FOE? Are they gussetted? I just did my first gussetted cover (Thirsties style) a few weeks ago and it came out great-definitely solves the loose leg problem with the 1 inch FOE. But yours is super cute with the white tabs!

I made it pretty much exactly like the Flip cover, so there is no lining, just PUL that can be wiped and reused. The front and back are T&T, as there is another layer of PUL on the inside to make little "pockets" to hold the insert. There is no FOE or gussets. I folded some PUL to make it like bias tape (HUGE PITA!!) and sewed those on as casings and then ran elastic through them with a safety pin. Here's a pic of the inside:

labby, love the diaper! Super cute. Can you send me your etsy shop link?

Everyone, thanks for the offers to make wool stuff for me, even if you are too busy!! Super sweet. I'll have to check out the tutorials--I've got knitting tools, yarn, and other accoutrements from my few weeks of attempting to learn. I'm hoping I was unable to pick it up because I'm left handed attempting to learn right handed, but I doubt that is it since I'm pretty handy with both sides. I'm just a knitting failure!

I know nothing about the new FS elite. Haven't ordered any. I still have a few of the older style to get rid of. I think I'm going to have a huge blowout, going out of business sale soon. I'll keep you updated.

You could always give crocheting a try. I think it's much easier than knitting. For some reason me and knitting just don't go well together. The only issue is crocheted stuff isn't as stretchy as knit because of the nature of the stitches, but it may still work for your purposes.

My Etsy shop is www.etsy.com/shop/mlwozniak. I don't have much on it though. I actually just sold another crayon case this morning, so that listing will be coming down when the person completes the purchase so I will have to re-list it so if it's not there when you look at it that's why. I have more stuff to put up, I just haven't had the time to make a picture-worthy sample. I made this case similar to the crayon case but it has clear vinyl in it and holds dry erase markers. So you can draw on one side and it has a piece of felt attached as an eraser. Olivia LOVES it, but she drew all over the outside of the damn thing so I need to make a new one to take a picture of and post. It is great for in the car though, aside from the fact that she draws on everything around her, lol! I thought about posting the bath towel I made for her too which I posted on FB a while back. I'm still a bit weary of posting diapers though. I need to change my designs enough so they can't be considered "copies" which they totally are right now. Plus I just worry about getting complaints about leaking and such, even though it may not be a problem with the diaper itself. Some people can be really nasty about that type of thing and I'm not sure I want to deal with it.

I had someone freak out on me that the three FITTED diapers they bought were leaking and not waterproof. Well, duh!!!! It's a freaking fitted that requires a cover and it wasn't like she had emailed me about buying something, these were premade items I had listed. She bought them, sent an email saying how much she liked them, then I found her on another forum I'm a member of totally trashing me for selling her defective, leaky diapers. I chimed in and said she specifically ordered premade FITTED diapers and that it also clearly stated in the description that they were not waterproof and required a cover. I ended up having to post a picture of what it was she ordered that showed it, and then other people jumped on her for being stupid instead of me for selling crappy products. LOL

Labby, could you add gussets to your cover ala Thirsties style? That way you'd be Flip and Thirsties and "different enough" to not be a direct copy of their cover, not that I'm sure it really matters that much unless they hold a patent to a specific design feature of their cover (I have no idea if they do or not).

Yeah-sounds like a huge PITA Labby. BUT, you could substitute FOE, couldn't you? Try 1 inch? Still super cute!

Sorry to hear going out of business, DG. Bummer! I really like your store (just don't order diaper stuff very often to utilize it). Definitely keep us posted. I need little boy colors in OS pockets. Not committed to a specific brand, just my budget.

I second crochet. Knitting has never worked for me, but I find crochet much easier. I've had no problem with the amount of stretch in garments-everything seems to work just fine. Good luck!

Thanks Pam! Let me think about it! Haven't considered second-hand.

Any reviews on the Kawaii diapers? They seem to be in my price range and are pretty cute. I know they are basic, but I was a NuBunz user with J, so basic really doesn't bother me.

I haven't used any, but diaperswappers people seem to like them. They've been a popular name brand for the two years I've been reading there. I'm not sure Kawaii's are known to last long though.

Sorry, never tried a Kawaii but I've read good things about them. They are very affordable so if I was looking for more pocket type diapers I would probably give them a try but use my bamboo and hemp inserts instead of the microfiber. Since I will be home for a year with this one I plan on doing more of the flats instead of pockets. I've become a pretty big fan of them, I just need to get some more covers made! I have 2 flip covers and 2 that I made, the first being the pink flower BV print which looks super cute but I screwed up the leg casings a bit. It should still work though. I'd like to get a few more made, especially since I'm still using them on Olivia too. If all else fails though I could always use my pockets as covers, they just wouldn't really be reusable before washing.

I could use FOE I guess, but I haven't been a huge fan of working with that stuff. I used it on some swim diapers for Olivia and didn't really care for it. Maybe I'll have to try some of the BV stuff and see if my opinion changes, lol! Gussets are an idea. Maybe I'll try those on the next one!

So I may have had a breakthrough in my ammonia problem. I had got some ammonia remover tabs that are used in fish tanks. I soaked most (but not all) diapers in it and then washed them with some extra rinses to make sure it was all out (although that stuff is used for live fish so I can't imagine it's that harmful/irritating). Anyway, I think it worked. I only soaked one of my bamboo terry flats so that I could compare. The one that was soaked didn't have much of an ammonia smell in the morning. The one that wasn't WREAKED of ammonia! So I re-soaked all of the diapers and washed them last night with some extra rinses. Now the test will be to see how long it lasts.

We also had a breakthrough in the potty training department and she actually ASKED to use the potty at day care yesterday! Woohoo! I hope she keeps it up! Now I just have to get her to poop in it. She seems to hold it until a diaper goes on and then with 5 minutes (usually as we're walking out the door) she poops.
