Hello I would be very interested to know anyone who suffers from hyperactive thyroid like me. Well, I don't have any symptoms, but my hormone level is a bit higher than it should be. If you have a similar problem, please, tell me, what are your symptoms or how were you treated and with waht success.

I was diagnosed with a hyperactive thyroid during my last pregnancy. I wasn't having any symptoms that I noticed, but it appeared in bloodwork.
So they put me on PTU, did some ultrasounds, and had to wait until I was no longer pregnant to even really diagnose why it is hyper. And they still dragged their feet for about a year. Over this course of time, the swelling increased to the point that I could feel uncomfy pressure when I'd bend my neck in certain ways. The PTU wasn't helping (it was keeping my numbers in check, but the swelling was only increasing), and while I was told I would need surgery to have the enlarged portion removed, they never got around to it.
So, annoyed and frustrated, I sought out a homeopathic doctor (my mom sees one who is quite good). Within a week of the first treatment (acupuncture points stimulated by magnents and homeopathic remedies), I couldn't feel the swelling anymore. Three weeks later, the swelling can only be felt when I swallow (by a doctor feeling my neck this is). I have more bloodwork done in a few weeks, so we'll see how my numbers are doing. I'm still on PTU for now as well as the homeopathic drops I've been given. So far I'm quite pleased with the homeopathic route (though this I only started about a month ago).

Thanks Tarsia. I have never had a swelling, it was only detected in my blood and the hormone level has never really gone up the upper limit. I was tired of taking pills that were prescribed to me and now I live at the coast, so I hope it helps. But homeopathy is something I haven't thought about. I will consider this, too. Thanks!

Of the options I had - which was either take a poison (PTU, which kills thyriod horomones) or have it cut out (and possibly wind up on replacement thyriod horomone for the rest of my life), I'm quite pleased with how the homeopathy is going. Problem seems to be getting resolved quite easily.

would this homeopathic treatment work for a hypoactive tyroid? mine's all fcked up, and i absolutely hate the synthethic hormones that are supposed to be a therapy... the only solution these doctors ever have is "lets increase your dosage and see how it goes"! and then i spend the next week nauseous, feverous, weak and completely unable to function. disgusting way to cure something (as if...)

I don't see why it wouldn't work as well for a hypoactive thyriod. It works quite well for a lot of conditions. My homeopathic doctor uses a combo of kinesiology, homeopathy and acupuncture points (stimulated with magnents and vibration instead of needles).
The treatment is personalized based on what they learn with the kinesiology, so it's not like some treatments that are sort of blanket approaches.

It all sounds very interesting, I think I need to see a homeopathic doctor soon. In my case I was on the drug called Metizol for about 5 years. I had no side-effects, but not much progress either. I mean, as soon as I stopped taking it, hormones got back to the same level. And I am tired of taking the drugs, it doesn't make sense.

I would like to revive this thread because of two reasons. First of all I started homeopathic treatment and it seems that after some time it really works.
The second reason is that on LC forum someone drew my attention to low temperatures as a symptom of hypoactive thyroid. I am actually diagnosed as having hyperactive thyroid, but I do get low temperatures and I also noticed a lot of other hypo symptoms like cold intolerance and flaking skin. I started to research the subject and realised that some symptoms are common for both conditions like irritability, depression and tiredness.
I have been treated for hyperactive thyroid for some years and there was no result. I mean, as soon as I went off the medication the hormone levels would go back to square one. I also discovered that typical blood tests for thyroid hormone levels are misleading and I am no longer so sure whether I am hyper or hypo. .. my consolation is that homeopathy cures the whole body irrespective of what sort of condition we suffer from.
That's why I really appreciate your advice, Tarsia. In fact I am feeling that my anxiety levels are going down and I become more positive in my attitudes. It is a slow process, but I hope it will now work.
I will appreciate anyone with hypo or hyper thyroid to contribute and describe their symptoms and treatment.

I was just searching for articles that combined ladycomp and thyroid disease and came across this.
I have had thyroid disease for over 10 years. I started out with the most hyperactive thyroid my doctor had ever seen. They tried to give me medication that would keep it lower, but that would just make it too low. I would bounce back and forth between hyper and hypo. Sometimes the only treatment for this type of disease is the radioactive iodine. Taking a supplemental pill for the rest of your life is far superior to bouncing around (in my opinion). All the bouncing left me severely under weight.
I went ahead with the iodine because the group of specialist that saw me thought that surgery to remove the thyroid was too risky. It can permanently damage your parathyroid...which is something that can not be replaced via a pill.
Now that I just take a pill to replace the thyroid every morning I am 200% more healthy. I am a healthy weight and have very few symptoms. I just wanted to add that to this discussion...because for some people killing off the thyroid and taking the supplement is by far the better way to go.
