Description
The hubby insisted we visit the Flight 93 Memorial near Shanksville, PA. This is the flight that crashed on 9/11/2001. Not yet a full government memorial, this is a people's memorial and is quite moving.

I also posted this in the thread about "where were you on 9/11"... but, I had second-hand connections to two of the heros on that plane. I have always wanted to visit the memorial when I find myself in the central PA area sometime.

Rich Guadagno... Worked for the same agency I work for, and at one time even worked at the same office (but before I was there), as well as others here in the East. Tons of people I know through work knew him really well, and our agency has done some touching things to memorialize his work and life. He was a federal Law Enforcement officer, and was considered to be killed in the line of duty because his badge was found in the wreckage of the cockpit. You don't hear his story much... single man, didn't make any moving phone calls home, etc. But, he was a hero, no doubt.

Todd Beamer... Known best as the man who said "Let's Roll" which was overheard by the operator on the seat phone. The guy I was dating at the time, his father and Todd's father are really good friends. My then-BF knew him as a child, but not so much as an adult, but his dad was pretty upset by it all. Todd's parents came to D.C. for a breakfast the president had with victim's parents, and stayed at BF's parents B&B on the Chesapeake Bay. I met them, I didn't say much, I was at a complete loss for words.

Thanks for sharing. Of all the tragedy of that day, this is the one that I think about the most.

Just my annual bump.....was thinking of things again today as our Day of Rememberance draws closer. The day we visited still remains the most moving day of my life.

You can learn more about the in-progress National Memorial (at the same site) at http://www.nps.gov/flni/index.htm
